Plot Summary
A hang glider begins his flight in the misty morning but quickly crashes into the Bay Bridge's suspension cables, breaking his arm, and leaving him dangling above the passersby. Down below, a carpool of three people sits in gridlock traffic. The driver, Ian, is headed to work. Julia, a sixteen-year-old girl, sits in the backseat playing hooky from school. After a bad friend-breakup with her only friend, Julia started to explore downtown more often. There, she met Isaac, a homeless boy, and is on her way to help him panhandle. As they sit in traffic, Julia changes into ratty clothing and puts in a nose ring. Hannah, the woman in the passenger seat, opens the manila folder in front of her. She and her partner Kate are searching for a sperm donor. Up above, the hang glider slips in and out of consciousness. With traffic at a standstill, Julia leaps out of the car and takes off running between the cars. She stops when she gets to the police vehicles below the hang glider and looks up. Hannah, following Ian's advice, starts running after Julia, but she can't catch up, so she makes her way back to the car. When she returns, Ian admits to reading her paperwork and tells her about he and his wife's own fertility issues. They ended up adopting a baby girl from China. A few minutes later, a police officer knocks on Ian's window. With him is Julia, having told the officer Hannah and Ian are her parents. They play along and Julia gets back in the car. The hang glider is finally rescued from his precarious position.
