Plot Summary
Morgan and his baby brother of two years , Ace, live with their mother and father. One summer night, while enjoying a campfire outside their home, their dad gets singed by the flames. While Morgan fetches a cold wet towel for his injury, the flames of the campfire begin to die out. The darkness, which the children cannot see, attacks the brothers. The attack traumatizes Ace, and for months following the attack Ace is unable to speak or function properly. Ace can only cry. Morgan begins to resent his baby brother for receiving so much attention from their parents. The incident causes conflict between the two parents. All the while, Ace becomes seemingly possessed, making laughing and tapping noises, and causing chaos in their home. Ace regularly antagonizes Morgan. Daddy tells Mama to fetch Big Mama to deal with Ace. The family, however, is unable to return Ace to his original state. In a twist, Ace has been dead for a year and a half, haunting the family.
