Bill Hare, a well-known citizen and baseball team manager in a small town outside of L.A., hires his quiet neighbor Leonard to install a public address system in the local ballpark. As he gets to know his neighbor, he realizes that Leonard talks a lot when there is someone to listen, so when the announcer doesn’t show up for the first game of the season, Leonard takes over the role.
At first, he’s talented at what he does, but soon the town begins to complain about hearing Leonard practice for hours a day. He even installs a system in his own home and wakes Bill’s entire street with his announcements to his family. When Leonard begins to project the plays of the game before they even happen, he goes into a downward spiral and ultimately has to be sent to a mental hospital after his obsession with the PA system goes too far.
