Plot Summary
Kevin and Nancy Humboldt arrive at their friend Lily's house. The three have been good friends for ten years, but this is the first time they've seen each other in almost two. When they arrive, Lily immediately laments that she's been single for too long — her most recent relationship was an affair with a married man that ended in disaster.
The following day, Nancy goes for a walk before Kevin wakes up. When he walks into the kitchen and sees Nancy is gone, Kevin explains that they've been having severe issues in their marriage. Kevin tells Lily that Nancy doesn't love him anymore and that she plans to sleep with someone else. Even worse, Nancy won't sleep with Kevin anymore.
Nancy returns, and Kevin leaves for a run. Nancy divulges that she finds Kevin repulsive, which shocks Lily. The three go to the pool together, and while Kevin dives on the springboard, Nancy and Lily discuss Lily's past relationship. Then, when Kevin returns to the poolside and mentions having children in passing, Kevin and Nancy get into a big argument. Kevin accuses Lily of telling Nancy what he said, but Nancy says that she knew how he was feeling all along.
When they return to Lily's house, Nancy and Kevin have a conversation outside for a long time and then head inside to the bedroom. Lily overhears them having sex. Suddenly, she hears screaming, and Lily runs into the bedroom. She sees a lock of Nancy's hair lying cut on the bed and Kevin holding the scissors.
