Plot Summary
An old man guides a guest through his lavish home and recounts the story of his family's fortune. His late father is a physicist who becomes fascinated with time travel. He begins researching the phenomenon right when it loses traction in the field, which makes the procurement of grants and funds difficult. Determined, the old man's father perseveres, managing to find pockets of money here and there. He struggles to makes advances in his research, however. Eventually, the son gets his doctorate and becomes a physicist as well, joining his father in researching time travel. After years of research, they manage to open a channel to the past for ten minutes, giving them enough time to take something from the past. They discover that they've collected some dinosaur eggs. The son wants to publicize the discovery, but the father makes him swear to secrecy in fear that this discovery will reopen the study of time travel, thus drying up his sources of funds. The father and son continue to research for a few years, though they fail to come close to replicating the channel that they had created previously. As they conduct their research, the son raises the dinosaurs. Some die, but enough of them survive that they are able to reproduce, laying many eggs. Then one day, as the father sets up their hundred-thousand-dollar machine for another experiment, one of the dinosaurs gets loose, wandering into the laboratory. It steps into the spot where the machine generates the time channels. The machine gets short-circuited and the dinosaur gets fried. While the two scientists stand in shock at the destruction of their equipment and investments, they are suddenly overwhelmed by a pleasant aroma. They inspect the dinosaur and find that its flesh has been cooked. Though some parts are raw and some are burnt, the two men eat the meat to the bone. They immediately realize that they have a gold mine on their hands. They start breeding the dinosaurs and branding them as dinachicken. It sells like crazy, as the meat is the most delicious in the world and needs very little preparation. As the owners of the only dinosaur herd in the world, the two men monopolize the market and build their fortune. The father eventually dies, still upset that he never discovered the answers of time travel. The son, now an old man, lives happily. He has his servants prepare a dish of dinachicken to serve to his guest, excited to see the guest's expression when first tasting the luxurious dish.
