Wayne is the aging pilot of a small commercial craft with no more than six passengers, staving off his grief by bantering with his younger co-pilot, Alex. As they land in an airport in Canada to de-ice their airplane wings, Wayne is so busy reprimanding Alex for the poutine he just unleashed in their cockpit that he doesn't notice at first when the de-icing crew doesn't move.
At last, concerned by the delay, Wayne decides to cross the tarmac and talk to the nonresponsive crew. Alex notices strange lights in the woods beyond the de-icing machine, and the two theorize about possible causes and share old folktales about the northern lights. Wayne descends onto the tarmac, but as they get closer to the de-icing crew, the lights begin to move. Alex runs, but Wayne is too slow, and the mysterious force behind tye lights nearly consumes him.
When he struggles back onto the plane, the crew realizes one of their passengers was taken by the lights. Wayne later learns that they are ghosts who appear on cold and lonely Canadian nights to take away those plagued by sorrow and grief.
