A correspondent arrives at a military rest camp in Hawaii to interview Marine veterans who fought in the Pacific during the second World War. As one of the Marines tells him superficial stories about sleeping with women abroad and putting on joke shows for their fellow soldiers, the other Marines privately recall the darker aspects of their service, such as sexual assaults, racism, and death. When the journalist attempts to spin their horrific experiences into entertainment-worthy stories for the American public, the Marines realize that he wants to glorify their trauma and kick him out of the camp.
