Three teenage boys end up in Louisiana for the summer. The cousins, Frank, Abner Jr., and Joe spend their days fishing, playing baseball, and flying model airplanes. Joe begins to realize his crush on his cousin Frank, and every once in a while the two share an embrace.
One night, while his uncle is away tending to another doctor, Frank and Joe go frogging together. They return to their home that night, and Joe is ready to make his move when Abner Jr. bursts in and explains that he's had sex with a girl Betty. Frank becomes irrationally upset and storms out.
The next day, Frank, along with Abner Jr. must travel with Uncle Abner to attend the funeral of his colleague. Aunt Marie insists she doesn't feel well, so Joe stays back with her. A Black woman comes to the house and, upon hearing that Miss Marie is sick, she asks her son, Seth, to bring over some medecine.
Aunt Marie takes the medicine and insists that Joe does as well. Joe hallucinates and then becomes aroused thinking about Aunt Marie as well as Frank. He runs to the creek to calm down, where Seth finds him and takes him back to the house. Joe decides he needs to leave immediately. He packs a bag, says goodbye to Aunt Marie, and heads for New Orleans.
