A young woman is by the phone, waiting for a call from a man. The man appears to be her romantic interest. She recalls how the man promised to call her at five. However, it is past five, and he has yet to call her. She agonizes over whether she should call him, but she doesn't want to appear very needy. She then ponders if she misheard the man and wonders if the man wants her to call him instead. This increases her anxiety, but she still prevents herself from calling the man.
She then wonders if the man even cares about her, but she reminds herself that he does. She proves this by stating that the man has called her darling. She then begs God to help her. Finally, she wonders if she would react this way if this were one of her girlfriends. She realizes she wouldn't feel anxious and would have just called up her girlfriend. She chooses to count to five hundred; if he doesn't call, she will call him.
