Teddy is a little boy who has a fish named Fish. Teddy lives in Michigan with his parents, although his parents are getting divorced. His father cheated on his mother. As they wait for the divorce to finish up, Teddy spends his days with his little sister, Annie, play-acting their parents’ conversations over the phone. He takes care of Fish and looks into his tank, where it often seems like he’s dead, but he’s not. One day, Teddy hopes that his father will move out of the house and Fish will occupy the new house with him, and they’ll all be happy.
