A dachshund named Clementine and her human Norman are still adjusting to life after Claire's death. Norman is tinged with the scent of grief and sadness, but Clementine does her best to cheer him up. One day, the two venture out on a walk, but Clementine never hears Norman whistle for her to return. After a night alone in the forest, Clementine is rescued by a man named Steve who feeds her a bit of meat. Instantly, Clementine feels safe by his side. Back at his house, Clementine meets Luisa, Steve's partner, who renames her Carmelita. Steve, Luisa, and Carmelita have a nice life together. Luisa gets pregnant and Carmelita is thrilled by the new baby's scent. Every now and then, Carmelita will catch a wiff of Norman's scent, but Carmelita is happy with Steve and Luisa. A short time after the baby is born, Carmelita and Steve go on a walk. Carmelita starts to chase after a bunny and ends up far away from Steve's scent. Suddenly, Norman's scent is strong. Carmelita chases the familiar smell and is reunited with an overjoyed Norman. Clementine sometimes catches Steve and Luisa's scents, but she is happy to be back with Norman.
