Michael Paul Marshall Smith (born 3 May 1965) is an English novelist, screenwriter and short story writer who also writes as Michael Marshall, M. M. Smith and Michael Rutger. He is the author of the books Only Forward, Spares, One of Us, and others. Smith's very first published story, "The Man Who Drew Cats," won the British Fantasy Award for Best Short Story in 1991; since then, he has won several more British Fantasy Awards for his prose.
