Plot Summary
Deputy Hector Moody's truck breaks down in Montana's Custer National Forest. With no reception and a storm coming, Hector decides to hike through the forest to the nearest campground, where he will be able to find shelter. Meanwhile, Hector's girlfriend, Dr. Katie Faraday, learns that two violent felons have just escaped from a prisoner transport and are on the run. FBI Agent Frank Child tells Katie that the state, county, and tribal police agencies are all working with the FBI, but the two convicts are armed and dangerous. Katie worries that Hector could be in danger, but the police have no way of contacting him. After hiking for several hours, Hector arrives at a campsite and enters a cabin, where the two felons, Roy and Little Eddie, attack him. Realizing that he's a cop, they decide to keep him alive in order to help them escape. Using an old radio, they learn that a wildfire has broken out in the forest. Hector convinces them that they can't stay at the cabin. The wildfire draws personnel away from the manhunt and makes it harder to search the forest from above. But refusing to give up, Agent Child boards a SWAT team helicopter and continues searching for both Hector and the felons. As firefighters attempt to tackle the fire, Katie is called in to assemble a medical tent on the frontlines. The fire boss, Joey Raven, tries to reassure her that Hector will be okay. Hector leads Roy and Little Eddie though the woods, trying to avoid both the wildfire and the police helicopters. Hector tells them that all emergency personnel are probably more focused on the fire than the manhunt. Unsure if he's telling the truth, Roy and Little Eddie threaten to kill Hector if he double crosses them. The three men make it out of the fire zone and past some of the firefighters. But Agent Child, monitoring from the helicopter, recognizes them. Roy and Little Eddie force Hector to enter Katie's medical tent to get access to a car. She and the other nurses can all tell that something is wrong, but they try to play along. Hector gets Katie's car keys, and Roy forces Katie to accompany them to the car. Hector retrieves a hidden gun and attacks Roy, while a SWAT sniper shoots Little Eddie.
