Paul is playing marbles with his friend Bowdy one day and is not doing very well. He leaves his friend and is approached by a very tall man who asks for directions to Dorchester Heights. Paul directs the man and walks with him. The man asks Paul if he knows the history of the place they are walking to, and Paul tells him that George Washington fought at that place as the British invaded. The stranger takes some pebbles and thanks Paul for showing him the way. Then the stranger leaves in a horse-car. Years later, Paul is a teenager and is parading with the Wide-Awakes for Abraham Lincoln to be President of the United States. Paul realizes that the stranger that he showed to Dorchester Heights was Lincoln.
