Maleka Davidson returns from deployment and decides to visit her family in Alabama. She can't quite get used to the accents and the Southern culture she didn't grow up with in Seattle. She decides to drive home, but before she goes her grandmother gives her a protective charm and warns Maleka not to go anywhere without it. Insisting she'll be fine, Maleka heads out.
When Maleka stops at an old gas station, the charm falls out of her pocket. Although the gas attendant tries to give it back and insists it will protect her, Maleka drives away without it.
Back on the road, Maleka swerves to avoid a deer in the road. As she thunders into the gravel shoulder, the deer in her rearview transforms into a man. Panicked, she grabs her gun and shoots at him. She's able to drive a few hundred feet before the car breaks down completely. Maleka jumps out of the car and dashes into the forest, gun in hand. Kicking off her flimsy flip flops she sprints as fast as she can, but can still hear the monsters behind her. When she turns again, they've morphed into wolves.
Finally, Maleka comes to a cabin. Inside she sees two men with swastikas tattooed one their chests and portraits of Hitler. The men, Caleb, Travis, and Ryan, at first make fun of her and think she's crazy, but when the banging on the roof and walls begins, they know they're in trouble. Maleka makes a plan to shoot at the wolves all together. The men say goodbye to each other just in case. Maleka apologizes to the men, and just after, the door is kicked in.
