Molly is an 8-year-old girl. She goes with her grandmother, Grand, and her mother over to visit her Aunt Annie and Uncle Owen. She reunites with her four cousins, including Louise, who is eight like her. Aunt Annie had a fourth child, Troy, who she did not tell her mother about, so they spend a good portion of the day hiding little Troy from Grand. During the day, the normal family conflict ensues: Grand finds out about Troy and is mad at Annie for having another child that she can’t afford, a drunk Owen mocks Molly’s wife for not having a husband and thinking herself so high and mighty for it, the children hide and play their games. After Grand’s outburst about Troy, the children tell Troy that Grand will shoot him if she finds him, so Louise and Molly hide him in the barn. Eventually, Grand finds out about the little game and helps pull Troy out of there. When the lunch is over, Grand, Molly, and her mother go back home the way they came.
