The Field Minder is a machine created for farming and has a level 3 brain, allowing it a bit of analytical ability. It works on a farm everyday, completing monotonous field work. As it completes its work for the day, it realizes that some machines have not completed their jobs. The Field Minder teams up with another machine that has a level 2 brain in an effort to find out why the other machines with lower brain levels aren't working. They head to the city only to find that most of the humans are gone. The machines eventually discover that the machines are simply useless without humans to control and benefit from them.
