Plot Summary
A man moves into a New York apartment building and becomes intrigued by his eccentric neighbor, Holly Golightly. Holly is a 19-year-old country girl turned New York socialite. She sustains herself by dating wealthy men, whom she allows to escort her to restaurants and clubs. Her charm is both infectious and mystifying. She tells the man, who she nicknames "Fred", that she desires to find a place where she feels at home, similar to what Tiffany's jewelry store represents to her—a place where nothing bad can happen. "Fred" learns that she was once married as a child bride in Texas before escaping to New York. Her husband comes to New York City to convince her to come home, but fails. Holly learns about the death of her beloved brother, Fred, which devastates her. Her friend's ex-fiancee, Jose, moves into her apartment to support her as her lover. They plan to move Brazil. However, one day Holly is arrested for being involved with a client's drug trafficking ring. Jose dumps her because he doesn't want drama around his political career, but she decides she will still go to Brazil. Choosing to flee the country rather than face the charges, Holly makes a plan to go to Brazil. On the way to the airport, she decides to release her pet cat into the wild. After she kicks it out, she immediately regrets it. "Fred" promises to find the cat and take care of it, giving Holly hope and love for her friend. Years later, "Fred" receives a postcard from Buenos Aires, hinting at Holly's presence there, but her whereabouts remain a mystery. He hopes that she has found where she belongs.
