In the early days of space exploration, astronaut Alastair Wilson and his team land on the Moon. During his expedition, he discovers a peculiar pyramid-shaped object, made with extremely advanced technology. It quickly identified as an artifact not of human origin. This discovery shakes the core foundations of science and religion on Earth.
Using mankind's best efforts, they endeavor to understand its purpose. Eventually, 20 years later, they are able crack into its shell using atomic power but find that the fragments of the pyramid are meaningless to humanity.
Alastair guesses the purpose of the pyramid — an advanced civilization left it on the moon as a beacon, to test emerging civilizations on Earth, to see if and when they would achieve the capability to travel to the Moon and discover it.
Now, Alastair believes, humanity has announced its presence and technological progress to this distant alien civilization. All they have to do now is wait for a response.
