Plot Summary
Jedao is a decorated commander for the Kel, an interstellar population. After receiving notice to meet with his superior, Jedao learns that a group of Kel soldiers on a spy mission have ceased all communication, with their last transmission being a chaotic recording that ends in a gunshot. Jedao's mission is to go to Gwa-an with a small crew, infiltrate their ship, and rescue his captured crewmates, along with any information they ascertained. To his surprise, one of the captured crewmates is a former peer of his— Meng, a non-binary person with whom he attended commandant school.
Jedao meets a member of his crew, Teshet, a handsome man that immediately begins flirting with him. Though he is interested, he attends to the mission at hand. Jedao meets the rest of the small crew and receives his covert identity, and then the ship propels towards Gwa-an.
As Jedao's crew arrives in the space surrounding Gwa-an, Gwa-an security boards their ship, but with Jedao's training, he easily eradicates the threat. Nonetheless, it seems that their cover has been blown, so Jedao insists on boarding the Gwa-an ship alone.
Jedao infiltrates the ship wearing one of the security uniforms and makes his way to the containment facility. There, a priest in charge of security stops him, but he easily disarms them, forcing them to take him to where Meng and the others are. However, the priest informs him that he is thirteen years too late. Jedao does the math, having attended school with Meng only eight years ago, and realizes that Meng has been a double-crosser all this time. Meng is now the sole survivor of the crew, having failed at convincing any of the others to betray their home. Despite Meng's betrayal, Jedao's mission is still to return them and their ship. Threatening the priest's life, Jedao convinces them to let his crew go, escaping to their ship safely.
Aboard the ship, Jedao's wounds are being treated when Teshet walks in, impressed and seduced by his skills. Before returning to Kel, the two of them finally have sex.
