Tinu is a Nigerian refugee from Earth living on Mars with her sister, Arin. Arin hopes to one day return to Nigeria, but Tinu is uninterested. Tinu is dating a Chironi, an emotionally perceptive and gender-neutral people, named Quistis. After having sex, Tinu tells Quistis about her sister's desire to return to Nigeria where their mother had once returned. Tinu's mother returned to Nigeria from Mars to re-develop the country's devastated agriculture, wrecked by oil spills, by using technology that had been applied to develop Mars's agriculture. Sadly, an accident in Nigeria claimed Tinu's mother's life. Quistis uses their powers to transport Tinu's consciousness to a plane in which Tinu feels all of her emotions she had suppressed. Tinu realizes it is not her place to decide whether or not Arin can return to Nigeria. Tinu decides to help Arin return to Nigeria on a Chironi exploratory pod to Earth. Arin leaves the only home she has known along with her sister Tinu.
