In the far future, a group of nine explorers have been tasked to survey a planet at the extreme edge of space. They are all a little mentally unstable, and they are all on edge because one of the members is a brash empath who does not want to get along with anyone. When they land on the planet they are supposed to explore, they realize that the only life forms on the planet are plants. The empath is tasked with surveying the forest, which he does until he is attacked by one of his group members out of hate. The forest, having picked up his empathetic message of fear, starts relaying empathetic terror into the minds of the explorers. In an attempt to calm the forest down, the empath volunteers to sacrifice himself to it so that the forest can learn love and peace. He does so, and the group is able to return back from their misson.
