Four girls, Aliyah, May, Piper, and Elizabeth, go hiking and camping in the woods. Aliyah has wilderness experience, while the other girls do not. After the first day, Piper gets sick and thinks she has food poisoning from eating turkey jerky. The girls pitch a tent and start telling ghost stories. Elizabeth tells a story about the Stick Indians, where stick Indian guards protect forest areas by poking people with sticks at night. Nobody is scared by the story, but when they wake up in the morning, the girls find piles of sticks laying around their campfire. The girls grow worried, but Elizabeth reacts the worse. She begins to fear that somebody like the Stick Indians are in the woods and grows increasingly paranoid.

Meanwhile, Piper's symptoms get worse. The group decides that the strange events and Piper's sickness are enough reasons to leave. However, Piper is too sick to hike back to the car, which is four hours away. Aliyah stays with Piper, and May and Elizabeth walk out of the woods. During this hike, Elizabeth is spooked by a deer, thinking it's something more sinister, and runs off into the woods. May tries to chase after her but is unable to find Elizabeth. May knows the group needs help and decides to hike to the car. When she arrives at the car, she drives to the closest house. However, when May knocks on the door, a strange woman yells down from the second-floor window. The woman tells her to get away and that she has a gun. May sees a landline telephone in the house through the window in the door. The door is unlocked, and May decides to enter the house. Once inside the house, a gust of wind blows the door open again, and a strange creature that looks like a mutated moose/deer enters the house. May freezes in terror at the strange beast, and the woman comes down with a gun. The woman fires a shot, but it isn't clear if the woman shoots May or the beast.
