Plot Summary
Henry is imprisoned in a Virginia jail in the mid 19th century after he is framed for a bank robbery. He is unable to plee his case, and his only option is to work while he is imprisoned. Henry attempts to run away and is shot by a prison guard. He has run far enough away that he is dragged away by an African woman named Lana. Lana was looking for Henry, and wanted to use his large amount of physical strength to the benfit of the African Ameican people. She tells him she was sent by Ogun to teach him to be stronger. She trains him and feeds him blood, iron, and molasses, which gives him the strength of Ogun. He leaves Lana to go find the man that framed him, weilding two large hammers. While on his way, he was camping in the forrest when he came accross a young looking man named Simi. He tells Henry that he was running away from his captain. Simi had been recruited when Captain Pan took him from a slave ship and promised him eternal youth if he worked for him. However, Captain Pan had no use for them once they turned sixteen, and Simi had just turned sixteen. Captain Pan appears, a ten year old white child with needle-sharp teeth and wild hair. Henry has to fight off Captain Peter Pan and his lost boys, and Tic Toc the mechanical crocodile. Eventually, at the sight of the sun rising, Captain Pan retreats and Simi runs away. After he leaves, Harriet Tubman appears, having seen the entire fight. She tells Henry that she is working for Sherlocke Holmes who hired her to find help to catch Jack the Ripper. He agrees to help.
