Meg is a young Broadway actress. Recently, she broke up with a boyfriend who refused to propose to her. Now, she is on an island getaway at St. Bart’s with a Broadway playwright, Charles Howe. They spend the day together, sailing to a little island and exploring its coast, but she feels the separation between the two of them. She wonders if that would be a good thing, to not be so subsumed by someone else in a relationship. However, when they get back from the island, he warns her not to swim at night because she could get run over by a vehicle out in the water. She resents his fatherly tone and makes up to swim at night just to spite him.
