Plot Summary
The princess, male, and prince, female, are descendants of a royal dragon lineage, each of whom must serve in different ways. The princess has prophetic dreams, which are burdensome and do not allow him to sleep. The prince is a military leader who helps protect the dragons, who live under a mountain. The princess dreams that the humans are coming to kill them and that they will succeed. When dragons die, their souls become different kinds of stone, and once they have been slain by the humans, the humans will mine the mountains. The prince consults with her generals and the princess is tended to by his handmaidens. The princess then goes to find the prince at night, who is sleeping with her consort. The princess reflects on his love for his sister, and how it saddens them that their destinies separated them. He tells the prince that the humans are upon them and she leaves to go fight them. As she is leaving for battle, she thinks about how she should have been the one to have dreams, as her dreams were always of dragons flying and feasting. The princess returns to his quarters. He finally gets to dream his own dreams: of being with his sister, of having his own hatchling, of being happy. He waits for the humans to come and slay him.
