A nameless father analyzes his twelve-year-old daughter's social media in hopes of understanding a girl who provides him only silence during their long car rides together. When he drops her off at physical therapy for her tendonitis, he's crushed by her chattiness with her therapist, who hardly acknowledges his presence. His daughter finally breaks the silence, only to confess she has no friends. She fails to complete her physical therapy exercises and earn roles in her ballet company, taking refuge in social media to escape her failures. As time progresses, his daughter begins to overcome her challenges with sleepovers and dance roles, but her father finds himself demoralized by the election results and struggles to maintain his optimism. Ultimately, he discovers that the girl whose silence and compulsive YouTube watching characterize the moral decay of American society, is nonetheless his route to rediscovering hope. From witnessing her therapist use her time off to attend her dance recital to his daughter pressing herself comically against the window when he comes home, she puts a smile back on his face.
