A Jesuit astrophysicist leads a team investigating the explosion of a star. In the aftermath of the explosion, they find the remnants left over by an extraterrestrial species: they see photographs of children, they hear musical voices, they learn of a life outside of that on Earth. Conflicted by the significance of his new discovery in terms of his faith, the astrophysicist prays to Father Loyola, trying to a way to make it all make sense to him. But he can’t. Life existing on another planet means that mankind isn’t so special after all, so how can God be real?
