Plot Summary
Ian is a high schooler whose father Val has gone missing. Ian currently lives with his father's girlfriend Vickie. Ian doesn't trust Vickie. Though she complains about being lonely without his father, he hears her having sex most nights of the week from his father's bedroom. One afternoon, on his walk home from school, Ian sits on the bench outside the town barber shop and hears someone refer to his father being at the 'bottom of the Mississippi.' When Ian gets home, he hits Vickie in the face. Vickie hits him right back, and tells him that she might take it from his father, but she will not take it from him. That night, Ian can't sleep, so he slips out into his neighborhood. He sees Vickie and a man walking towards the abandoned Forest Park Hospital, and carefully follows them. Inside the decrepit, spooky building, he hears the voice of the man ask about the location of "the money," and the voice of his father, Val, answering that he can't say. From a discrete location, Ian watches the man cut off his father's pinky finger with shears. The man threatens to kill Ian if Val doesn't tell them where the money is. When Val tells them the location of the money, the man takes out a knife, and Ian watches him slash Val's throat. Ian runs from the abandoned building and into the night. When he returns home, he hears the squeak of the bed next door, and retrieves his father's hammer. When Ian opens the door to his father's room, he sees the man having sex with Vickie. Ian walks to them and smashes the man's head in with the hammer. Vickie tells Ian to kill her, too, but Ian drops the hammer and exits the room.
