The Mann family has long evaded government officials who question the legality of their profitable fish trap, but when a new warden comes to town, he is determined to end their river monopoly permanently. Despite their best efforts to dissuade him, he blows up the fish trap and leaves, presumably to do the same to others. One of the Mann boys follows the warden as he goes through the forest, and aims to shoot him in retribution for his family’s loss. However, the warden catches the boy before he can hurt him, and they talk about hunting in the local area before the warden lets the boy off with a warning. When he returns home, he begins to help his father rebuild the fish trap.
