Plot Summary
An elderly woman finds herself at a fork in the road when her local Reverend shames her into taking in a family rendered homeless by a tragic flood. The reader is taken on an escapade through the mind of the protagonist (whose name is never revealed), as she attempts to adjust to the change. Having recently lost her daughter and granddaughter to what seems to have been a murder-suicide, she finds herself surrounded with tragedy. Her husband is cranky, her house guests are a bit mysterious, and she just wants to be a good Christian through it all. Towards the end she and her husband both find themselves questioning their commitment to their faith given their current circumstances.
