Plot Summary
John, a thirty-six-year-old man, takes his dog Grace to Central Park for a walk. Without many friends, John adopted Grace from a shelter to be his companion. While at the park, he meets a woman who reminds him of his only ex-girlfriend, Jean. A few days later, John comes home from work early but Grace doesn't meet him at the door as she usually does. John takes her for a walk, but she's too tired so John carries her all the way home. John decides to take her to the vet the next day. John drops Grace off at the vet and heads into his office, but is so anxious that he has to go home early. When he goes to pick Grace up, the veterinarian tells him Grace has died. Devastated, John walks home bewildered. When he gets home he calls Jean for the first time in a year, and asks to see her while he sobs into the phone over Grace's death.
