Plot Summary
Evie works at an office job that she hates, and it makes her depressed. Along with the job, her home life makes her depressed as well. Helen, her ex-girlfriend, left her, and now she lives alone. Every day after her depressing office job, Evie comes home to a microwave dinner in front of the TV, and tries to drown out her thoughts. She is under a lot of stress from work because her boss is constantly telling her what mistakes she's making, and one day even yelled at her and reminded her that annual evaluations are around the corner. Evie begins to contemplate suicide. She writes a note for her father and considers who else she should leave one for. Helen has been calling Evie, trying to check in on her, and asking if she's looked into getting a cat, as she suggested, but Evie never answers. Instead, she contemplates what she should tell her dad and how to lessen the blow. She reflects on her childhood playing baseball, and tries to include the lessons her dad taught her as a kid to make him think that she ended up with his beliefs and values. Everything mounts up, with all of Evie's bills due and her car showing signs of a problem. Evie continues to work, and constantly reminds herself to finish her suicide notes.
