Plot Summary
Kristy has been visiting Grandma Jo in the nursing home for a while under the guise that she is her granddaughter. Kristy has made acquaintance with the staff as well as with the house dog, Gypsy, who belongs to the forgetful Mrs. Buddenbaum. Grandma Jo seems to be losing her memory, but agrees to go with Kristy outside of the nursing home and never return. Kristy helps her escape and takes her to a restaurant near a park. The two eat and Kristy attempts to get Grandma Jo’s backstory, though it is clear the old woman’s memory fails her. When Grandma Jo goes to the restroom, Kristy follows her in and strangles the old woman with her scarf. She searches the dead woman’s purse, looking for a brown notebook, but does not find it. She decides to return to the nursing home that night, assuming the notebook must be somewhere in the old woman’s room. She cannot find it and meets Mrs. Buddenbaum who turns out to be the actual woman that Kristy has been looking for for the past years. The two sit down and discuss the fact that when Kristy was little she had a sister who had been killed by Mrs. Buddenbaum — a monstrous woman who seems to kill children and then disappear. Mrs. Buddenbaum has the notebook that Kristy was looking for that contains a picture of her sister in it along with pictures of all the children that the old woman has killed. Mrs. Buddenbaum seems to accept defeat but then attacks Kristy with a knife. Kristy is close to death, but the dog Gyspy attacks Mrs. Buddenbaum, saving the young woman. A chase ensues as Kristy pursues Mrs. Buddenbaum into the forest, who seems to possess superhuman strength and has two rows of teeth. Kristy is tackled in the forest by the elderly woman and only barely manages to kill her. Kristy limps back to her car and accidentally kicks the dog Gypsy who goes with her as she leaves town.
