A thirty-five-year-old artist accompanies her husband to Miami where he deploys overseas. On her flight home to New York, a Naval officer, John, sits next to her. John, just twenty-four-years-old, is coming home from deployment and feels lucky to be alive. As they take off, Kate falls asleep and John studies her appearance. He recognizes her wealth immediately. John also falls asleep and dreams of nothingness, just like when he was in the Navy. When he wakes up, Kate's face is just inches from his own. He is suddenly drawn to kiss her, but instead turns the other way and falls back asleep. Kate wakes up to a hand caressing her hair and then her breast. John, in his sleep, has moved towards Kate. He stirs and Kate wants to get closer. They remove the arm rest and kiss. Kate introduces herself and John realizes she is a famous artist. They fall asleep intertwined. When they land, they put the arm rest back in place and go their separate ways.
