A man named Cole sits in jail, waiting for the next step in his journey through the justice system. But as he waits, he grows sleepy and tired and his mind travels away from the cell. Cole then lives through different variations of justice systems as if they were real.
Some are more just, others are strange. In one world, Cole's victims are the ones with the power to decide his sentencing. In another, Cole finds himself before an insane judge, sharing his story as the judge applies clown makeup. In yet another vision, Cole watches a parole hearing for a man, who perhaps may be him.
Eventually, Cole wakes up to find that people have come for him in his cell. Cole is disoriented and tries to figure out what world with which variation of the justice system he is living in. No one understands him: one of the officers tells Cole that he is in the only justice system there is.
