Plot Summary
Shawn, DeMarcus, and Amir are dressing up for an employee party at Briarwood Mall, where all of them work. Shawn is nervous to talk to Dayshia Banks, a crush who works at Nordstrom, and his friends tease him for his choice of a Chewbacca shirt. They head over to the party, a soft opening of the mall's new 'barcade'. Shawn can read the room in an instant, knowing all of Briarwood's gossip. He writes about it frequently, in addition to his sci-fi writing. Cameron, an oily man from the Cologne Kiosk whose age and school no one can place, slides next to Dayshia to make his move. Amir walks over to her and tells a white lie to get her to talk to Shawn. The two hit it off, but Cameron interrupts their conversation, courting Dayshia relentlessly. Shawn goes to the bathroom and finds a second party, complete with craps and a blunt, happening there. Cameron enters and tries to get Shawn to buy his stolen cologne, and when Shawn refuses, he steals Shawn's phone and makes fun of his writing. Someone begins vomiting in the next stall and Shawn uses it as an excuse to grab the phone back. Cameron finally confronts him and initiates a challenge, saying he'll take Dayshia unless Shawn fights. Shawn walks away, finding Dayshia outside the mall, and they begin talking again. Dayshia insults Cameron. The next time Cameron comes by, they both tell him to bounce. Briarwood Mall begins to burn in front of them, likely the result of a lit blunt and flammable cologne left in the bathroom, but the gang all find new jobs, and Dayshia and Cameron become Day-Shawn, in Demarcus' lingo.
