After Jamie lived on a farm with his uncle for many years, his father arrived to show him another kind of living - wandering across burgeoning America as a nomad. Now, Jamie and his father have headed north, where they encounter Smoothface, another nomad hoping to reunite with his longtime friend turned Evangelist, Holy Joe. Jamie and his father join Smoothface in his quest, but are arrested by a constable. They convince the lawman to take them to the Evangelist's Revival on their way to the jail. With Holy Joe's help, they escape during his passionate sermon. Jamie and his father set out to find another of their nomad friends, but the man has passed away. They bury him, and Jamie's father tells him that the man has come to a fork in his life's road, just as Jamie has. Jamie then realizes his father had another motivation for bringing them north - his uncle's farm is nearby, and Jamie can go back to a stationary lifestyle if he chooses. Jamie declines the opportunity, choosing to continue his nomadic lifestyle alongside his father. They reunite with Smoothface and Holy Joe and set off on another adventure.
