Piettro Lonetti decides he will commit suicide in an hour and a half, but only after he wins the race car race that is about to occur. The starting gun sounds, and Lonetti expertly maneuvers the road in his Maserati. In the process of driving, he coughs up blood due to the chronic effects of constant fume inhalation, but his performance does not dwindle.
He basks in glory, knowing he is in the lead, just like he has been for the past 20 years. He passes his competitors one by one with blood still running down his chin.
As he imagines himself as Victor once again, he realizes that this is not the future he would like anymore. He lifts his foot off the pedal and lets his car slow down while his competitors fly past him. His assistant incredulously asks him what happened, but he simply says he wishes to go home.
