In the far future, a young man accidentally commits adultery. When faced with his possible punishments, he is pushed into journeying to clean up Wolf 359, a distant planet that has undergone catastrophe. When he arrives at Wolf 359, he realizes that its founders settled on the planet with the aim of making it a second Earth, allowing evolution to generate more diversity in the human race than there is currently possible. The protagonist comes up with a plan to help the inhabitants of this second Earth to conquer the galaxy.
