In the present, a teenage girl and her best friend are questioned by the police because they attended a party during which a young man was pushed into a pool. The young man is now in a coma and on life support because of that incident. The girl and her best friend start drifting apart, although she doesn't know why, and she begins to fall for a girl two years older than her. She and her best friend drift apart even more, and at the end of the story, she figures out that it is because her best friend was involved in pushing the young man into the pool. Their friendship dissolves.
