Upon his mother's request, James begrudgingly comes down from Houston to his home state of Louisiana to visit his stepbrother Moultrie at a correctional facility. Moultrie has dealt drugs all his life, but the locals have turned a blind eye in the past.
At the facility, James is struck by the dingy monotony of the prisoners' lives. Moultrie tries to strike up a polite conversation with James, but James can't let go of how stupid and careless Moultrie was to have gotten caught after all these years in the business. Angrily, he tells him he won't let him move in with him during his parole.
Moultrie tells James the drugs they found at his place weren't actually his; he'd been set up. He begs James to look for a suitcase somewhere in town and "flush" its contents. James agrees and leaves.
