Generations have passed since the kaiju, a powerful extraterrestrial species, drove humanity underground. Enter the superhuman elite, genetically engineered for power. One hero is on a mission to kill the kaiju maximus, the strongest of the aliens, and end the human race's struggle to survive in caves pocketing the earth's underbelly. However, in order to maximize her powers, the hero must bring her family along for the journey. The superhuman mother, her two children, and her partner are on the last leg of their long and tiresome trek when they finally reach their destination. On the peak of a winding hill, the parents spot the dark abyss in the sky where the kaiju maximus hides. The hero disappears into the night to prepare while the father cooks dinner for their children, who learn that tonight is the fated night. The father takes them to bathe in an icy river, where he discovers his son has the ability to harness underground steam to heat water, and his daughter is transforming into a superhuman, just like her mom. Their dead sibling, it is revealed, was also superhuman. Back at the campfire, the father boils the last of the chocolate for the kids to drink. The mother returns so that her family can bless her for the fight. However, each blessing exaggerates her powers in ways that are dangerous—and potentially fatal—to the giver. When her son kisses her sword, its sudden blazing-white heat almost incinerates them. When her daughter kisses her back, the stone wing-tail that sprouts from her spine almost slices them all into shreds. And when her partner kisses her mouth, her newly-marbled flesh tears at his lips and drains away his youth. When she releases him, their crying children throwing pebbles at their harder-than-stone mother, he falls to the ground with the body of an old, withered grandpa. The mother flies away to fight the alien and the father, aged beyond recognition, sits with his distraught son and daughter. The end of the world ripples around them until the son falls asleep. A mangy dog who'd been following the family appearing from the shadows. The daughter asks if they can keep it, and the father says yes.
