As guests at a wedding, an American group spends time at an old French house. In the countryside, they slowly uncover the history of the land. The house was taken over by German soldiers, but the cook of the house, a tough old French woman, refused to leave. She was eventually rescued by American soldiers, but not before they mistook her for a threat and shot at her. To the relief of the attending American guests, she was unharmed. They soak in the history of the place, reveling in the celebration of the wedding, and hope to cling onto that moment for as long as possible.
