Plot Summary
The Snatch team is an unusual military rescue team, made up of dead individuals reanimated by futuristic technology. Prior to a mission, they are assigned a person to impersonate, and go through an elaborate cosmetic process to cover and alter their own deteriorating faces and missing limbs. The team lives in an apocalyptic future, afflicted by diseases that have taken the rest of the human population. But with the ability to time travel, they are able to find plane flights already doomed to crash and rescue the passengers on board—saving their lives and providing an ailing future world with fresh, healthy people to save them.
On this mission, Mandy is the 'joker,' the first agent to go through and kick off the mission. She intercepts the stewardess she is impersonating and kicks her through the portal before joining the rest of the flight crew as if normal. On board, she gets the people assigned to her team through a portal in the bathroom and switches them out for the agents easily, though time is ticking as the plane head towards its fate (mechanical failure) and time works differently on either side of the portal.
The team works efficiently through their familiar routine, stunning passengers with their guns or herding them through the portal through intimidation. By the end only the team is left on board as the plane heads towards its demise. After a quick recharge of blood transfused with adrenaline among other things, the crew receives 'wimps,' or dummies with realistic faces/bodies to place in the seats so as not to disrupt anything for the people who will find the plane. This takes time, and Mandy and Cristabel nearly don't make it back through the portal.
In the end, they make it back, and the bewildered and frightened humans are milling around in pens, being debriefed on their futures. They will be taken to Centauri-3, or New Earth, which is hospitable and devoid of all that has consumed Earth. They are the best hope for the deteriorating Mandy and company, for humanity to survive.
