Alice's boyfriend and Estelle's son, Jimmy, has passed away. To cope, the two women spend their time at an Italian soda restaurant eating paninis and swapping stories about Jimmy. During this time, Alice re-evaluates her relationship with Estelle, which once started out full of envy and jealousy of Estelle's perfect life filled with lavish parities, material objects, and great skin and hair. Over the lunches, Alice becomes increasingly less comfortable as she knew Jimmy harbored resentment towards his mother and would hate that Alice was spending time with Estelle. Over one lunch, Estelle invites Alice to plant a tree at Jimmy's grave. In this moment of vulnerability, Alice decides to lie to Estelle by saying how great Jimmy thought she was. Knowing that Alice is lying, Estelle sobs hysterically and is escorted out of the restaurant by Alice.
