Plot Summary
A man wakes up in the far future with a new identity and fit body that he describes as Apollo-like. His new name is Elan Rock. He attempts to adapt to the new culture, language, and happenings of the future while communicating his experiences to Joe, the man who sent him to the future. Elan enjoys the future, and describes it as very peaceful and happy. There are only two laws: do not annoy your neighbor, and do not be too easily annoyed. The people are also very open sexually, having separated sex and love. Elan finds joy here but is taken aback by these strange occurrences he keeps experiencing. It starts when unclothed "savages" with clubs appear in the middle of the street and he has to fight them. Next, a group of prehistoric saber tooth tigers appear and the man must kill one to defend himself and a crowd of people. These events begin occurring more rapidly and stranger each time. A group of redcoat soldiers with muskets, a bull and matador, and a group from the 17th century in ballgown getup all appear back to back. Elan reports all of these to Joe, saying he doesn't know what's going on. In the end, Elan Rock is picked up, presumably by authority figures of this society. They tell him that the reason these events keep happening is because he and Joe have held open a "time hole" in order to stay in communication with each other. As long as this time hole is open, anyone and anything from any time period can travel through it. The final conclusion is that they must close the time hole and Elan must stop communicating with Joe.
