In the company of 30-year-old Willie Heaps, a 12-year-old boy goes on hunting and fishing trips throughout the seasons. One day, Willie tells the boy that they are going to Angus Gordon’s house. On the way there, Willie says that his church has welcomed a new preacher and that Willie was saved during the last church service.
Though no one answers the door at the Gordon’s, Willie gets to business “fixing” the young colts and thus believes that he is preventing further sin in the world.
Suddenly Willie turns hysterical and goes on a killing spree while singing hymns and yelling comments about stopping sin. The boy escapes in fear and reports Willie's behavior to a nearby family. After hearing the news, the boy’s father comes to pick him up. The next morning Willie is found self-mutilated and is rushed to the hospital. However he dies the next day and the boy goes to his funeral, thinking bitterly towards the reverend.
