Plot Summary
In this futuristic world, VoxViews, a TV company, tasks alcoholic scientist Gallegher to create a device that will surpass their competitor's work, Sonotone. Gallegher agrees to aid VoxViews due to his loyalty to the company and because he is in debt. However, his alcoholism impedes his work, and he gets drunk and builds a robot. The scientist is unsure of what kind of abilities this robot has. Believing that the robot is harmless, Gallegher leaves the robot in his lab and goes out to inspect the devices of Sonotone. When Gallegher returns home, the robot reveals that Sonotone officials came to his workspace to hire Gallegher to work for their company. The robot says that he had hypnotized the officials into believing that he was Gallegher and signed a contract. This contract forces Gallegher to only work for Sonotone. Gallegher does not want to help Sonotone and wonders why he built this robot. He takes Sonotone to court to demonstrate that the robot had hypnotized the Sontone officials. The robot refuses to show his abilities, and Gallegher loses the case. He returns to the lab to develop a solution to control the robot. He convinces the robot to get drunk, and the robot hypnotizes himself. The robot falls back under Gallegher's control, and Gallegher finally remembers that he built the robot to use subsonics, which are inaudible sounds that will scare audiences. Since Gallegher has to work for Sonotone due to the robot's contract, Gallegher implants these subsonics in Sonotone's devices, which scares Sonotone’s audience away. This allows for VoxViews to finally outcompete Sonotone.
