While wandering near the Mississippi River, Fish-hound notices that he is being followed by his friend Headeye. The two young Black teenagers start fishing together, and Headeye brings out his mojo bone and claims that it is the single key for all Black men, and it belongs to the people of God. He recounts a biblical story of Ezekiel, who went to the valley of bones where God pronounced that all the bones would be gathered and bound together. Headeye then claims that Noah’s Ark will be coming, and Fish-hound cannot believe his eyes when sees it floating in the river. A rowboat takes them to the massive ark, and an old Black man greets them there. Fish-hound believes they may be dead, and Headeye says it is a soul boat. The boys are taken downstairs where there a bones stacked to the ceiling. The old man declares that they are in the house of generations which carries a small part of the souls of all black Americans. He anoints Headeye and calls on Fish-hound to be a witness.
Days after their experience on the ark, Headeye announces that he is leaving but will be back someday. They shake hands, and Fish-hound understand that he was chosen as witness because he keeps his word. He tells the others about Ezekiel and the valley of dry bones, but he never talks about what he saw on the ark.
